Surprising Places to Find Germs in the Workplace Nobody ever thinks of their workplace as a breeding ground for germs, but the office can actually be playground for virus and bacteria organisms. Working in close courters contributes to the spread of these unwanted visitors, especially if your coworkers are careless about washing their hands or stubborn about coming into work when their sick. That’s why understanding your surroundings and knowing where the germs thrive is extremely important to your health and productivity. The following are some surprising places to find germs in the workplace:
In order to prevent your workplace from becoming a "bacteria cafeteria", it’s important for you and your coworkers to employ hygienic practices. Although you may think swapping your desk, phone and computer with antibacterial wipes or sprays will do the trick, it’s actually just spreading the germs around instead of killing them. Antibacterial products only kill a portion of the spectrum of bacteria that’s out there, so make sure you use something that says "disinfecting" or "sanitizing" in order to properly attack most bacteria and viruses. It’s also important to wash your hands instead of simply dousing them with sanitizer. At WellBeing, we offer services that guarantee a clean, safe and healthy environment for your customers and employees. We offer state-of-the-art, hands free technology that will help your organization decrease the risk of cross contamination and exposure to harmful bacteria. We help organizations of all sizes in various industries safeguard their facilities against a variety of bacteria including: E-Coli, Hepatitis, HIV, MRSA, Staph, and Strep. Knowing that germs foster in the workplace environment shouldn’t cause you to become paranoid- there are always going to be germs in your office. Being aware of where they are and learning healthy ways to avoid them is a better way to look at things.

WellBeing Partners with Dyson AirbladeWe are proud to announce a new hand dryer partnership with Dyson’s Airblade. Working in just 12 seconds, it's the fastest hand dryer – and it's hygienic, too, forcing air through a HEPA filter before blowing it onto hands. And because it uses up to 80% less energy than warm air hand dryers, it costs less to run. It can also help lower a business's carbon footprint - with no paper towels creating waste.Dyson has a worldwide reputation for establishing innovative equipment for use at home or in industry and commerce; most people would be familiar with television advertising of the Dyson vacuum cleaner. In recent times, Dyson has been working with product engineers to create brand new concepts and designs for long established household products, in addition to the release of their modern electric fan. WellBeing has signed an agreement to become the only official distributor that provides a full-service lease option. Current WellBeing clients are now offered a better alternative to cut paper costs as well as do away with warm hand dryers that are too slow and unhygienic. Warm air hand dryers are too slow. Some can take as long as 43 seconds to work. It's because of their motors. They can't create enough airflow to remove water from hands effectively. They're also unhygienic, sucking in dirty washroom air and blowing it back onto hands. And they still heat the air – which is expensive and not very green. Dyson has conducted many case studies which demonstrate both the health and cost benefits of the Airblade. WellBeing Hygiene's program will also benefit your budget during tough financial times! Through our full-service leasing program, your facility will no longer have to budget the outright purchase of a Dyson Airblade as a capital expense, therefore allowing you to realize a substantial Return on Investment starting on Day 1. Restroom Sanitation and the EnvironmentRestrooms are, in fact, one of those rooms that require a lot of attention, especially when it comes to cleaning. And with that, comes the responsibility to make it easier, safer, faster and better for individuals and the environment. Coincidentally, with the advances in restroom technology, it is getting easier to make restroom sanitation and the environment work harmoniously together to create a healthy atmosphere for everyone to enjoy. The following are some helpful hints to keeping your restroom sanitation environmentally friendly.Use less water One of the most useful ways to make the restroom cleaning process more eco-friendly, is by utilizing products that reduce water consumption. Studies have shown that 70 percent of overall water usage is from bathrooms, which makes water saving products an essential commodity. ![]() Automatic flushers Low flush, automatic toilet flushers are not only helpful for forgetful children, but they are also great for the environment. By using these flushers, you can reduce the amount of water used every time you flush (typically 9 liters) to 6 liters of water or less. Automatic faucets It’s common for people, especially children, to leave faucets running longer than necessary when washing hands. A hands-free faucet can reduce over half of the water used daily by simply running only when necessary- not the whole time. Use fewer resources Taking advantage of touch free restroom technologies is a great way to limit the use of resources. Below are a couple of examples. Hands-free dryers Environmental disruption and waste can be significantly reduced by switching to energy-efficient, fast-working hand dryers. Even recycled paper isn’t a contender for the efficient hand dryer- it takes 7,000 gallons of water, 360 gallons of oil, 158 million BTUs of energy, and 86 pounds of pollutants go into the atmosphere when making recycled paper. Mounted soap dispenser In addition to preventing the spread of germs, hands-free soap dispensers reduce waste by automatically releasing an ideal amount of soap when motion is detected, instead of allowing children to pump unnecessary amounts of soap that will simply get washed down the drain without much purpose. Green materials and ecological design are the cutting-edge ways to implement sound health and hygiene practices, ensuring that clean water, clean air, and healthy habitats remain available for everyone over time. Since restrooms require a great deal of energy and host a number of germs, it’s even more necessary for individuals to use eco-friendly products for illness prevention, as well as for environmental conservation.

The End of Flu Season Doesn't Mean the End of GermsMost people rack up on sanitizers and other germ fighting products during the flu season to combat the ever-apparent concentration of germs; however, once the flu season dies down they go right back to their old habits of carelessness and lack of proper hygiene. But here’s the truth; the end of flu season doesn’t mean the end of germs! Germs are everywhere, and while some can be helpful, others can be extremely harmful, especially to children or those with weaker immune systems. Since most people don’t consider the crowds of individuals that touch public items in just one day, they put themselves at a higher risk of getting sick. The following are 5 common places that you should avoid touching with your bare hands – all year long, not just during the flu season. Office/Public Restrooms: This is an obvious location in which germs live. Ask your employer or the facility manager to start using touch free restroom technologies such as automatic faucets. Avoiding contact with restroom fixtures is a great way to not come into contact with germs. ATM machines: If you thought payphones were germ magnets, ATM machines are worse. ATM’s are like a vacation for germs- they skip around happily enjoying their flourishing environment. If you happen to carry antibacterial wipes, which is highly recommended, take a quick swipe at the buttons; if not, you should complete your transaction with your knuckles or wear gloves. Escalator handrails: It’s amazing how many people take escalators in various locations and don’t think about the number of people who’ve put their hands on the railing before them. Although it’s a habit to put your hands on the railings, don’t do so unless you safety is compromised. If you have to use it for balance, then use an elbow or forearm instead. Shopping carts and baskets: Hundreds of people use shopping carts and baskets daily, so it’s no surprise that germs use it as a breeding ground. Try to keep sanitation wipes with you or attempt to push the cart with either your elbows or the palms of hands. When carrying a basket, try to hold it on your arm, or use a tissue to grab the handles. Door handles: This one might seem like a no brainer, as most people know to avoid touching public restroom door handles and faucets. But, what they forget is that even private homes’ doors can host a number of germs. Whether you are in a private residence or in public, it’s important to wipe down the knobs or use a spare napkin or tissue to open the door handles. You can’t expect to completely rid your surrounding of germs - they keep your immune system working and multiply so much it would be impossible anyways. However, you can help prevent yourself from getting a cold, the flu, or any other infection by always being aware of your surroundings and keeping your hands clean. You should always have a set of antibacterial wipes or gloves with you to use as a barrier between your hands and germs. If you don’t have wipes or gloves, use tissues, baby wipes, napkins, or anything else on hand to clean with. Again, you should practice these techniques year long and not just during cold and flu season- unlike bears, germs don’t hibernate.

Germs are Everywhere - Protect YourselfGerms, the all-embracing term for bacteria and viruses, are everywhere and now is the time to start protecting yourself from these unwanted visitors. Whether you are at home, work, or even enjoying a day at the park, it’s guaranteed that you will come into contact with these harmful intruders. Germs are everywhere - in food, in the air, on plants and animals, in the soil, in the water, on just about every other surface, and even on your own body. Don’t be alarmed though, most germs won't hurt you as our immune systems are made to protect us from these persistent agents; however, some germs are challenging rivals because they're constantly mutating to break your immune system's defenses.Protect Yourself! By learning to protect yourself from germs, you are not only keeping yourself healthy when something is "going around", but you are also preventing future colds, flus and other sicknesses by improving your daily germ fighting habits. The following are some common ways to prevent germs from attacking your body and making you sick. Wash your hands: One of the number one ways to protect yourself from germs is by simply washing your hands regularly. Antibacterial soaps are great, but plain soap and water work just as well, if not better- just lather up and rinse and your good to go! Wipe down all surfaces: No matter whether the surface is wood, plastic, stainless steel, or even the paper in a magazine, germs breed there. Make sure you wipe down all surfaces, especially in your kitchen. The kitchen is especially important because of the bacteria present on some uncooked foods, especially meats. Get a proper sanitizer: In everyday life, you may encounter situations where you need to sanitize your hands, but there is no proper hand washing equipment available- this is where hand sanitizers come in handy. Your hand sanitizer should be at least 60% alcohol if you hope to disinfect in between washing and any time you come into contact with anything someone else might have touched. If not, they may not work properly and you could put yourself at even higher risk of getting sick. Avoid sharing personal items: Sharing is caring- but not in this case. Sharing items such as makeup or earrings can give germs easy access to your welcoming body and may cause you to get infections or disease. Evaluate your lifestyle: Exercising, eating nutritious foods, staying hydrated and getting enough sleep can help reduce stress and improve your immune system’s ability to ward off germ invasions. Drinking fountains: Since water fountains are damp and rarely cleaned properly (if at all), they are a popular breeding ground for germs. A helpful hint would be to run the water for at least 10 seconds before drinking it- this can help you avoid these germs and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Some other top places where germs thrive are: public magazines, grocery carts, keyboards and office equipment, gym equipment and even the remote control. Take advantage of technology: Automated hygiene technologies such as automatic faucets, automatic flushers and automatic cleaners are just a few examples of how technology can help prevent the spread of germs. Although we can’t completely avoid germs, we can make it difficult for them to affect us. The importance of washing your hands can’t be expressed enough, and by following the other proper cleaning techniques you can better equip yourself to handle the onset of a sickness and maintain a sick-free lifestyle for yourself and your family.

What is the Sneeze Effect? The "sneeze effect" in toilets is something that often goes overlooked. When you flush your toilet, your toilet spews plumes of bacteria, moisture and viruses in the air. These particles can land on your bathroom surfaces (or you) up to eight feet. Simply putting your toilet seat and cover down will not prevent the spread of these bathroom germs. Make sure you keep your toothbrush and other items that need to be kept sanitary away from your toilet for optimal sanitation.
Below are things you can do to help maintain a clean environment around your toilet.
